Whirlybird Installation · Clayton
Clayton's post-war brick veneer homes were built well before roof ventilation was standard, so the cavity above the ceiling traps heat on warm days and pushes it down into the rooms below. A whirlybird continuously exhausts that hot, still air using nothing but wind movement, taking real load off the roof space in summer. On the concrete and terracotta tile roofs common here we lift the tile course, cut a clean penetration, bed the flashing watertight and seat the turbine. Near Monash University, newer townhouse roofs are typically smaller, so fewer turbines are usually needed than on the larger older blocks nearby.
Clayton's post-war homes were built without roof ventilation in mind, so summer heat builds up in the roof cavity above the ceiling — a whirlybird clears it continuously without power.
Local roof weather
Clayton sees around ~5 days above 35°C a year, and on those days an unventilated roof cavity turns into a heat store right above your ceilings.

The process
We look at roof size, pitch and existing airflow to work out how many vents you actually need — no over-selling.
Vents go high on the roof where the hottest air collects, balanced with the eave intake so air can actually move through.
On a tiled roof we lift the tiles, cut a neat penetration, and bed the flashing so it is fully weatherproof.
The turbine is seated in the flashing collar and the tiles are reinstated over the apron, leaving a clean, leak-free finish.
Installation differs by roof: on tiled roofs we cut and flash the penetration under the tile course, while on metal roofs the vent is flashed directly into the sheeting. Both need the flashing done properly — a rushed vent install is a classic future leak.
Installations are carried out by an insured team and the workmanship is backed by a 7-Year Workmanship Guarantee and a 10-Year Dulux Acratex Material Warranty.
