Whirlybird Installation · Reservoir
Reservoir's post-war homes were mostly built with minimal roof ventilation, so on hot days the cavity above the ceilings turns into a heat store that radiates down into the bedrooms all evening. Whirlybirds — turbine roof vents — let that hot, trapped air escape. On the concrete-tile roofs that dominate Reservoir we lift the tiles at the vent location, cut a neat penetration, bed the flashing so it is fully weatherproof, then seat the turbine and reinstate the tiles over the apron. A few correctly placed vents make a real difference to how the upstairs feels on a hot day, and in winter they clear the warm, damp air that would otherwise condense in the roof and feed mould.
Reservoir gets around seven days over 35 degrees a year, and on those days an unventilated post-war roof cavity holds the heat well into the night — which is exactly what a couple of turbines are there to release.
Local roof weather
Reservoir sees around ~7 days above 35°C a year, and on those days an unventilated roof cavity turns into a heat store right above your ceilings.

The process
We look at roof size, pitch and existing airflow to work out how many vents you actually need — no over-selling.
Vents go high on the roof where the hottest air collects, balanced with the eave intake so air can actually move through.
On a tiled roof we lift the tiles, cut a neat penetration, and bed the flashing so it is fully weatherproof.
The turbine is seated in the flashing collar and the tiles are reinstated over the apron, leaving a clean, leak-free finish.
Installation differs by roof: on tiled roofs we cut and flash the penetration under the tile course, while on metal roofs the vent is flashed directly into the sheeting. Both need the flashing done properly — a rushed vent install is a classic future leak.
Installations are carried out by an insured team and the workmanship is backed by a 7-Year Workmanship Guarantee and a 10-Year Dulux Acratex Material Warranty.
