Whirlybird Installation · Spotswood
Spotswood's Victorian, Edwardian and interwar cottages near Scienceworks were mostly built well before roof ventilation was standard, leaving roof cavities under low, tight rooflines with nowhere for summer heat to escape. A whirlybird uses wind and rising heat to continuously draw that hot air out, cutting ceiling heat load in the house below and reducing moisture that can otherwise sit against roof timbers. It's a straightforward retrofit that sits low on the roofline, suited to terracotta, concrete tile and Colorbond alike, without disrupting the heritage streetscape.
Spotswood's compact heritage cottages often have particularly low, tight roof cavities, and a whirlybird gives that trapped hot air a genuine exit point it wouldn't otherwise have.
Local roof weather
Spotswood sees around ~7 days above 35°C a year, and on those days an unventilated roof cavity turns into a heat store right above your ceilings.

The process
We look at roof size, pitch and existing airflow to work out how many vents you actually need — no over-selling.
Vents go high on the roof where the hottest air collects, balanced with the eave intake so air can actually move through.
On a tiled roof we lift the tiles, cut a neat penetration, and bed the flashing so it is fully weatherproof.
The turbine is seated in the flashing collar and the tiles are reinstated over the apron, leaving a clean, leak-free finish.
Installation differs by roof: on tiled roofs we cut and flash the penetration under the tile course, while on metal roofs the vent is flashed directly into the sheeting. Both need the flashing done properly — a rushed vent install is a classic future leak.
Installations are carried out by an insured team and the workmanship is backed by a 7-Year Workmanship Guarantee and a 10-Year Dulux Acratex Material Warranty.
